Government Minister Visits The Old Low Light.

We were delighted to welcome Lord Neil Mendoza, the Goverment’s Commisioner for Cultural Recovery, to the Old Low Light on Wednesday 29 September.

We were very fortunate to receive a Cultural Recovery Fund grant in 2020. With a party from Historic England and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Lord Mendoza visited us to see how we were coping following periods of closure due to the pandemic.

The party was impressed with the Old Low Light’s wide-ranging offer, volunteer support and strong community links. They were particularly pleased to meet volunteers like Michael Coates, Linda Franklin, Syd Cairns and David Ellison all of whom were on duty, delivering their usual warm welcome and excellent customer service to all our visitors.

Jules Brown from Historic England added his thanks by saying:

‘Many thanks indeed to you both for giving us such an enjoyable lunch break during yesterday’s DCMS visit by Lord Mendoza and Emma Squire. It was an ideal demonstration of how a grass-roots heritage project can become a thriving, popular and financially viable community hub.’
