Old Low Light receives very welcome grant from Asda Foundation

The Old Low Light Heritage Centre on North Shields Fish Quay has received a £2,000 cost of living grant from the Asda Foundation to help cope with increasing running costs.

Asda community champion Mavis Maughan presented the cheque to staff and volunteers at the heritage centre.

Centre director Guy Moody said: “This is a very welcome grant at a time when we are facing real financial challenges. We are grateful to the Asda Foundation for their support.

“Like many similar organisations, the pandemic followed by the cost of living increases have left us in a very difficult financial situation and we are struggling to stay afloat. Despite taking steps to cut our costs, like reducing opening hours, we are still losing money week on week.”

Mavis who is based in South Shields is one of Asda’s community champions who work with local groups and charities.
