Fish quay heritage centre looking for speakers

The Old Low Light Heritage Centre on North Shields Fish Quay is looking for speakers to take part in its activities and events programme.

The heritage centre is returning to its pre-pandemic programme which included two talks a month – on the second and last Saturday – each lasting an hour from 11am to 12noon, covering topics relating to the history, heritage, culture, wildlife and the natural environment of North Shields and the fish quay.

Centre director, Guy Moody said: “We already have some very good speakers among our volunteers, members and friends and we’re approaching them to see if they have any new subjects or research that they would like to include in our talks programme.

“However, we would like to expand this small army to allow us to develop a longer-term programme of activities and events. So, we would like to hear from others who haven’t previously given a talk at the Old Low Light but who thinks they may have a suitable subject that they would like to talk about.”

He added: “While we can’t offer payment to speakers, if their talk relates to a book they have written, they would be able to bring copies along with them to sell. We could also sell suitable books, crafts and artwork in our shop.”
