Heritage Action Zone Talk: John Dobson in North Shields

Old Low Light volunteer and retired architect, Stuart Barlow will talk about the buildings and projects of famous North East architect, John Dobson in North Shields, Tynemouth and Seaton Delaval.

John Dobson was born in Chirton, where his father owned the Pineapple Inn and garden nurseries. During his career he was involved in nearly 450 projects and is perhaps best known for designing Newcastle Central Station and also for his work with Richard Grainger transforming the centre of Newcastle.

Dobson designed 20 projects around North Shields, including five still standing within North Shields Heritage Action Zone.

The North Shields High Street Heritage Action Zone will deliver a four-year programme of physical improvements, community and cultural activities.  It is a place-based scheme designed to secure lasting improvements to historic high streets and the communities who use them.
