The Old Low Light Heritage Centre on North Shields Fish Quay is saying a big thank-you to people who gave their immediate support to a crowd funding appeal.
Within hours of launching the appeal for £2,400 to help keep the centre afloat for the next three months, more than half had been raised.

Centre Director, Guy Moody, said: “This is a fantastic response and we are so grateful to people for their generosity.

“We know that at the moment there are very many worthy causes and this kind of response shows just how much the centre is valued by the community.”

He continued: “We have very small reserves and even with the support pledged by the Government we worked out that we would need a further £2,400 to cover our bills and overheads over the next three months.”

The centre, which occupies the oldest surviving building on the Fish Quay last week closed its popular café and galleries in line with Government guidance to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus.

Guy added: “We hope that all of our staff, volunteers, members and regular customers to the café and visitors to our galleries stay well during this difficult period. We hope it is not too long before we can safely re-open and resume our programme of exhibitions, walks, talks, music sessions, concerts and classes.”
