Spirit of North Tyneside award for our wonderful volunteers

We are so proud that our wonderful volunteers have been recognised for their contribution in helping to make North Tyneside a thriving borough.

The Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn, has handed them a Spirit of North Tyneside award, which every year goes to the borough’s ‘unsung heroes who help North Tyneside thrive and who care about people, families, communities and our beautiful borough’.

Our volunteers’ award was in the category for helping to make North Tyneside a thriving borough, which they do every time they turn up for a shift at the Old Low Light Heritage Centre. Whether they are welcoming people into the centre, serving in the café, researching and curating informative exhibitions about our local area, giving talks, leading guided walks, or making sure that our flower boxes are colourful, they are playing a part in helping to make North Tyneside a great place to live and work.

We have volunteers who have been with us since the early days, even before we officially opened as a heritage centre and others who have responded to our calls for help after re-opening last year following a period of closure due to the pandemic. Every one of them deserves a very big pat on the back for their selfless support!
