Plant sale – big thank-you to all
A very big thank-you to our volunteers, green fingered friends and everyone who helped make our plant sale at the weekend such a huge success.
Despite wind and rain which forced us to take plants inside, we had a fantastic turn-out of people buying plants and, within a few hours, we had raised over £1,000.
Overall, this was a wonderful result and will help with ongoing running costs, as in a building the size and age of ours, there is always something to spend money on.
This is just another example of the tremendous support we receive from the local community.
We absolutely recognise that such a fabulous selection of plants doesn’t just happen but requires months of nurturing, combined with the heavy work of bringing them to the centre, setting up the sale and then a few hours of selling, providing gardening advice before clearing up at the end. Meanwhile, volunteers who will have been on the mid-week rota, were happy to come in for a special opening Sunday to support café and centre staff.
On this occasion, we were also heartened that droves of customers weren’t put off by the weather and came down to the fish quay to buy plants. Some even helped us carry the plants upstairs when rain and wind forced us to take the sale inside.
