It was with deep sadness that we learned of the death of David W. Bavaird on Tuesday 15 August 2023.

Our new summer exhibition – A Stitch in North Shields Time by Northern Threads – is now open and is already popular, with visitors leaving lovely comments about the creative work on display.

The Old Low Light Heritage Centre was delighted to welcome some special guests to a talk about the tragic loss of a paddle tug from North Shields 150 years ago.

A big thank you to you all for making our special Sunday opening a success on Sunday 2nd of July 2023.

Artist, Keith Barrett, who has lived and worked in North Shields for the past 35 years, is to talk about his commission to create a sculpture of escaped enslaved woman Mary Ann Macham, who became part of the North Shields community in the 19th century.

Join us on a special Sunday opening when we will have plants and a table top sale outside the Old Low Light Heritage Centre on North Shields Fish Quay with music provided by one of our guitar playing volunteers and a local saxophone group.
