We were pleased to see an article by Cultured North East about visitor numbers for the North East’s leading attractions during 2025 which showed that ours had increased by almost 25 per cent – and that we are doing well compared to others.
The figures came from the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) and of the 24 North East venues listed, 15 saw an increase, with the overall average being around 5 per cent up on 2024.
However, the Old Low Light was up by 24.4 per cent, which is mainly due to the increased activity at the centre relating to North Shields 800, supporting exhibitions by Pete Robson and Peter Burns, as well as our full and varied events programme.
The only other venues to have bigger increases were the free sites, apart from Tynemouth Priory whose visitor numbers included the Mouth of the Tyne Festival (which had not been added last year).
Although across the country, figures are still down on pre-pandemic levels, we were very pleased to see that we were doing so well when compared with other attractions.
