Special visit by Dutch street orchestra: Fanfare van de Eerste Liefdesnacht

Fanfare Old Low Light

It is a pleasure to welcome The Fanfare, this colourful and socially engaged Amsterdam street orchestra to the Old Low Light. For over 40 years, they have ‘been turning things upside down musically’ wherever they go in the Netherlands and beyond.

On this occasion they have crossed the North Sea in an exchange with the North East’s Storytellers Streetband to make appearances at the Whitley Bay Carnival and other venues over the weekend. To our delight, have offered to stop off at the Old Low Light for about an hour to play two sets.

The Fanfare with 20 brass players and 4 percussionists are welcome guests at parties, theatre days, and demonstrations for a better world, having had a prominent presence at festivals and events far and wide.

They always play acoustically, standing among dancing partygoers, walking down the street or across festival grounds while playing and sometimes performing their ‘idiosyncratic repertoire’ on stage.

Catch them over coffee for an outdoor performance on Friday 22 May at The Old Low Light Heritage Centre 11am – 12.15.
