The Old Low Light is pleased to support the Newcastle and North Tyneside group of national charity Read Easy UK with a Grand Book Sale on 25 January, with free entry to the centre, from 11am to 2pm.
Established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2011, Read Easy UK now includes more than 80 volunteer-led groups helping 1000+ adults learn to read in their community.
Their goal is to help all adults in the UK have the reading skills they need to fulfil their potential and live life to the full.
In England alone, 2.4 million adults – over 7% of the working age population – can barely read or cannot read at all.
Read Easy offers free, one-to-one coaching to adults who want to learn to read via our trained volunteer Reading Coaches.
The North East is an area of high need and the Newcastle and North Tyneside group was established in September 2023.
Funds from our book sale will be used to purchase much needed resources for their local coaches and readers.
There will be a wide variety of books for children and adults, a tombola, and activities for children.
You can meet local Read Easy volunteers and find out more about their work.
