Dorothy Brownlee continues the story of our local lifeboats, linked into her exhibition ‘Hope In The Great War’.

The hospital ship Rohilla was wrecked at Whitby in a terrific south east gale and war-time blackout.  Tynemouth’s RNLI  motor lifeboat Henry Vernon proceeded the 40 miles to Whitby overnight in that gale and rescued the last 50 men.
