CORONAVIRUS – Important information (Updated 17/03/2020)

Important message from the Old Low Light Heritage Centre regarding coronavirus

Following the guidance late yesterday afternoon (Monday 16 March) from the Prime Minister, the UK’s Chief Scientific Adviser and the Chief Medical Officer for England, I have met with the trustees and we have decided the following:

  • We are cancelling all planned events – such as talks, walks, classes, concerts and plays – with immediate effect.
  • We are closing the Heritage Gallery and Top Floor Gallery (including for private bookings) with immediate effect.
  • The café will stay open to the public. However, this will be reviewed on a day by day basis and may change if there is further national guidance. We will also be keeping our opening hours under review.
  • We are advising all volunteers, members and customers over the age of 70 or who are in at risk groups (i.e. have long term health conditions or are pregnant) that they should stay at home.

We will be running the café with a minimum number of staff and any volunteers who are not over 70 or in at risk groups. However, we are stressing to these volunteers that if they wish to stay at home then we fully understand that decision.

A very important message to everyone, whether you are staff, volunteers, members or visitors is that you should stay at home for 14 days if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of coronavirus. Such symptoms include a new persistent cough and a high temperature.

If you decide to come to our café, we currently have plenty of soap and hand sanitiser and will be continuing to ask you to use the sanitiser (or wash your hands for 20 seconds) on arrival and again as you are leaving. We have strengthened our hygiene procedures and are relying on everyone coming in and out of the building to help us keep the place as safe as possible.

As you are all aware, we are in an unprecedented situation which is fast moving. Should we need to make any further changes we will let you know, using email if you are on our contact lists, through information on our website (www.oldlowlight.co.uk) and through social media.

Best wishes
