Revealing the North Shields Story in a New Light
The Old Low Light sits on the spot where North Shields began many centuries ago. Its vital role was to lead mariners safely into the Tyne. We are working to make sure it continues to have an important role in the North Shields community.
Telling the story of North Shields
North Shields has a great story to tell and at the Old Low Light we want to tell that story. We work with local enthusiasts and groups to find out more about our town and find interesting new ways to share this through our gallery, activities and our events.
Building the future of North Shields
We want to continue to be part of the North Shields’ story. We’re proud to have had a key role in bringing the Old Low Light back into use and we want to keep supporting the renewal of the Fish Quay. We use local companies and suppliers wherever we can and we are working to provide jobs, training and work experience to local people. As a charity, every penny spent at the Old Low Light will be used to help us keep going and give back more.
Bringing people together – from North Shields and beyond
The Fish Quay is a dynamic community with businesses, residents, social and recreational activities and at its heart is a thriving fishing port. We want the Old Low Light to be a place where communities and activities can come together. It belongs to the people of North Shields and we want it to be driven by their needs and aspirations. Bring us an idea and we will work to make it happen.
We’ve deliberately designed our building to be fully accessible and to allow for a wide variety of uses with high quality IT and AV facilities. We want people from near and far to come and enjoy our cafe and shop, our community space and our North Shields Story Gallery.
